Vocal Contest (Khayal Gayan)

Junior Category — 12 to 16 Years

Participants born on or between 1st January 2010 and 31st December 2014 are eligible to participate in this category.

Senior Category — 17 to 25 Years

Participants born on or between 1st January 2001 and 31st December 2009 are eligible to participate in this categor

The competition will be conducted in three rounds:

     a) First Round (Video)

     b) Second Round (Offline)

     c) Final Round (Offline in Ludhiana, in Mid November)

Instructions for the First round (Video round)

  1. Register at sangeet.sribhainisahib.com, and send your video links.
  2. Length of the video should be 8 to 10 minutes (both for Senior & Junior Category)
  3. Video recording should be in single take (in continuity), editing is not allowed. Video should be in landscape mode.
  4. Electronic taanpura can be used
  5. Artist must be accompanied by a Tabla player and optionally Harmonium/sarangi player can be added.
  6. Accompanying artists should also be clearly visible in video.
  7. One who is already performing professionally will not be entertained in this competition.
  8. The Performing artist can be accompanied by maximum 2 accompanists only.
  9. Please make sure that the uploaded video link of YouTube or any other platform should be accessible. Follow the instructions below for YouTube video.

Instructions for the Second round

  1. Dates and venue of the second round will be announced after 1st round
  2. Performance duration for the Second round is 8 to 10 minutes (Junior) 10 to 12 to minute (Senior)
  3. Meals will be provided. Accommodation will be arranged only if the contest extends beyond one day.
  4. Please bring your Govt. approved original photo ID with address and DOB (Aadhaar card/ Voter ID/ Driving License/Passport)
  5. Maximum time duration to tune the instruments and set the sound will be 5 minutes.
  6. An indication will be given at the start of last 2 minutes to warn the participant to complete his/her performance within those last 2 minutes.
  7. Final indication will be given at the end of the allotted time to stop the performance. Negative marks will be given if the participant fails to complete the performance by the final indication.
  8. The participant will have to end his/her performance at any time in between their performance at the discretion of Judges.
  9. Accompanist (Tabla, Harmonium & Taanpura) will be provided to the participant by the organizer. In case, the participant chooses to bring his/her own accompanist, then he/she will have to bear all related costs including travel expenses for the accompanist.
  10. It is compulsory for the participant to be present at the competition hall during the entire competition. In case the participant fails to report on stage even after three calls, he/she will stand disqualified from the competition.
  11. The participants are expected to observe strict discipline and one found indulging in indiscipline of any nature (such as approaching the committee or judges, disrespect towards committee members, judges, use of foul/derogatory language etc.) will be liable for disqualification from the competition

Instructions for the Final round

  1. Finals will be held in mid-November 2026, tentative dates are 14th & 15th of Nov at Gurudwara Sri Bhaini Sahib, Ludhiana, Punjab.
  2. Accommodation & meal will be provided free of cost to all the member coming along with the participant.
  3. Travel tickets of 3AC train will be provided to the participant only.
  4. Performance duration for the finals is 10 to 12 minutes for Junior
  5. Performance duration for the finals is 12 to 15 minutes for Senior
  6. There shall be a panel of judges for the conduct of the competition. The norms for the judgment will be decided by the committee and their judgment will be final.
  7. An indication will be given at the starting of last 2 minutes to warn the participant to complete his/her performance within those last 2 minutes.
  8. Final indication will be given at the end of the allotted time to stop the performance. Negative marks will be given if the participant fails to complete performance by the final indication.
  9. The Participant will have to end his/her performance at any time in between their performance at the discretion of Judges.
  10. Accompanist (Tabla, Harmonium & Taanpura) will be provided to the participant by the organizer. In case, the participant chooses to bring his/her own accompanist, then he/she will have to bear all related costs including travel expenses for the accompanist.
  11. Organizers reserve the right to amend any rules without any prior notice to make the competition more meaningful and transparent.
  12. The judges are free to ask any questions or set any query in order to evaluate the overall knowledge of any of the candidate. The decision of the judges with respect to the evaluation will be final.
  13. The copyrights of the video and audio recordings of all the stages will lie with the Namdhari Darbar, who may use these recordings or any part thereof, in any form of media and participating candidate has no objection for this

Note: – For the final result, it is not compulsory for the judges to give a prize on all three positions. The final call of judgment solely depends on the performance and the talent of the participants.
